Livestock
industry can’t ignore hunger issue!
|
|

|
2008-10-20
Roxell’s
new publicity campaign will not remain unnoticed. The company’s broad
advertising exposure in the trade press makes it an ideal platform to call for
action against the world’s biggest humanitarian problem: hunger.
“It
sounds paradoxical that while more food is produced in more different shapes and
tastes than ever before, hunger is still the major problem in the world!”,
says
Gino Van Landuyt
, Managing Director of
Roxell.
“Almost
a billion people on this planet still suffer from hunger; among them are
millions of children who die from starvation every year! This global issue
can’t leave anyone unmoved. Especially not us who are active in an industry
that plays a key role in the food production supply chain. We simply cannot deny
the problem.
People
at Roxell are very much concerned about it. We have been supporting
international initiatives that contribute to bring relief to the hunger problem
in the world. On top of that, a group of colleagues is now introducing several
initiatives that will sensitize all co-workers and our other stake holders.
We
hope that our new advertising campaign will also motivate other people to
take action.”

Pan
feeders to fight rats!
|
|

Peter Sichien
: "closed feeders help to reduce risk of salmonella"
|
2008-10-20
“Rodents, especially rats, are the main proprietors
and propagators of the salmonella bacteria!” says
Peter Sichien
who recently assumed the position of Product Specialist Layer Systems at
Roxell.
“In cage houses where feed is conveyed in open troughs by chain feeders rats
enjoy an incredible liberty of movement. They leave a devastating trail of
infection wherever they pass with all consequences attached.”
At the age of 44 Peter knows what he is talking about. He grew up among poultry
and became an experienced poultry technician specialized in feed management,
housing and genetics. The past 20 years he was co-manager of a laying hen farm
and pullet rearing farm.
Peter has known Roxell for over twenty years as a user.
He knows the standards they stand for. He also noticed their effort and
commitment to innovate the feed management in the laying industry during the
last few years. Peter will now use his experience to further develop and
position Roxell’s full layer product range, including pan feeding and drinking
systems, a modular perch system (Le Roozzt) and KoKOON, their community laying
nest.
“The introduction of Poolaï and LaïCa, two pans specifically developed for
the rearing of pullets and for layers in production, is a tremendous asset for
the industry. They add not only to the efficiency in feed management, they also
improve considerably the overall hygiene in the house.”, concludes Peter.
Indeed the closed feeder tubes and elbows combined with
the neat finishing of the pans prevent that rats can access the feed in the
system. This reduces considerably the risk of contamination.
As a matter of fact the same applies to any other
situation where open feed troughs are used, for example in breeder houses and
even in broiler houses.
More info on these systems can be found on the
website of Roxell.

HaiKoo,
now also for broiler cages!

Special
HaiKoo-pan for broilers in cages
|
2008-10-20
Roxell’s oval pan concept also attracts
growers of broilers in cages. The interest comes especially from the Russian
market where 50 percent of the broilers are still grown in this way. The
HaiKoo-pan for broiler cages has an adapted support cone and a flat top support
so that the system can be winched up to its optimal height.
This
allows growers to fully enjoy all HaiKoo benefits: a fast start up, important
feed savings, an optimized feeding space and a minimal maintenance.

Over
one billion broilers on HaiKoo!
|
|

|
2008-10-01
Since its introduction in the spring of 2005, Roxell’s oval pan feeding system
for broilers has firmly entered all important broiler markets of the world.
According to Marketing Manager Frank Hartmann by the end of this year the
HaiKoo-pan will represent over 70 % of company’s sales of broiler pans.
At
this stage over one billion broilers have already been grown on the oval pan.
“Growers
particularly like the fast start of the broiler chicks which is the immediate
result of the 360° filling and the low pan height. But also the large feeding
space in is having more and more impact”, says
Frank Hartmann. HaiKoo offers a feeding space of 1140 mm per pan. Each pan serves up to 14%
more birds than most round standard feeder pans. In practice this allows growers
that upgrade from natural ventilation to tunnel ventilation with pad cooling to
stock more birds without exceeding the prescribed density per square meter and
without investing in extra feeder lines.
At
the occasion of the Roxell distributor seminar
Gino Van Landuyt
and Frank Hartmann honoured Mr. Bigeni of Patarker from Australia
for having sold the one millionth HaiKoo-feeder pan for broilers.

Vitoo

HaiKoo

KiXoo
|
2008-10-01
Sadia in
Brazil
choses
Roxell
for the renovation of 6 broiler breeder rearing houses. The old chain feeders
are being replaced by
Roxell
’s Vitoo pan feeding concept. The decision came after thoroughly testing the
Vitoo system for more than one year. Main factors in the decision were the
excellent feed and labor savings that were achieved and the great uniformity of
the flock.
Las
Camelias in Argentina
expands its co-operation with
Roxell
by installing the first HaiKoo feeding systems for broilers in seven houses. This is a direct result of the positive experience with
Roxell’s feeding systems for broiler breeders. Las Camelias has been a satisfied
user of KiXoo and Vitoo for over five years. In addition of the HaiKoo systems
the company continued to invest in two more houses for the rearing of broiler
breeders and two for production.
A’Saffa
calls on
Roxell
for the installation of a new broiler breeder and broiler project in Oman
including 9 rearing houses, 18 production houses and 27 broiler houses. Roxell
co-ordinates the full delivery which includes additional equipment from other
suppliers.
Agrika
in
Russia
appoints
Roxell
to co-ordinate and deliver the full equipment for a mega project including 8
rearing houses for breeder pullets and 70 broiler houses. The project includes
feed bins, feed transport systems, Vitoo and HaiKoo feeding systems from
Roxell
as well as additional equipment from other manufacturers.

Elmak
& Farmi Tilatech OY for training at Roxell

Farmi Tilatech OY
|
2008-10-01
Farmi Tilatech OY in Koski (Finland) and Roxell reached an agreement regarding the distribution of Roxell systems
in
Finland. The founders, Kirsi en Marko Nummela, both have an agricultural background and
run their own farm of 3000 meat pigs. This experience made them realize that
growers in the Finnish market have a need for good service and follow up. That
is why they decided to become an equipment distributor themselves. They were
especially keen to become a Roxell distributor because of the excellent
reputation of the company for its unrivalled quality and service.
You find more info on Farmi Tilatech on: www.farmitilatech.fi
To
respond to the growing opportunities in
Poland, Roxell added one extra distribution point in Lodz. Elmak, the new distributor, will be covering the center part of
Poland, whereas Aves (Murowana Goslina, near
Poznan) serves the west, Hodowca (Straszin, near
Gdansk) the north and Inwest Agro (Moticz near
Lublin) the south of Poland.

|
|

|
2008-10-01
From June 19th till the 22nd the island
of
Malta
was the setting of Roxell’s international distributor meeting. One hundred
and ten guests from all over the planet and a team of 30 Roxell co-workers
participated in the event.
Gino Van Landuyt, Managing Director of Roxell, was extremely pleased with the high attendance:
“It proves the strong commitment between the distributors and Roxell. We both
chose the best, in other words: each other!”
Also
Victor A. Mancineli, CEO of CTB, Inc and Chairman of Roxell stressed the
important role of the distributors in Roxell’s strategy in the past as well as
for the future.
The
morning program included lectures and workshops about Roxell, its systems and
its organisation. The afternoons were reserved for leisure time and relaxation
including a spectacular sea tour to the isle of Gozo.
“We
organise distributor seminars every four years. With this edition we wanted to
thank our distributors for their continuous efforts in an additional way over
and above last year’s celebrations of 40 years Roxell.” says

Automatic
Roxell
outlet ideal for phase feeding
|
|

|
2008-10-01
The
new automatic outlet from Roxell is a solid very maintenance friendly and
reliable device, ideal for the use in multiphase applications. It is made
entirely in materials that are very wear resistant such as nylon, stainless
steel or high quality plastic.
The
outlet has a rotating tube with a large opening and an asymmetric discharge drop
for a 100 % drop out of the feed (even with a high capacity transport system of
3600 kg/hour). The ingenious opening mechanism operates by means of a 24V
DC
motor with electronic control.
The
built in intelligence matches perfectly with an electronic network but can also
be used in a classic electrical configuration.
A
viewer window allows fast control on the spot. A LED gives the user immediate
feed back on the status (open or closed) of the outlets. The rotating movement
of the tube creates a self-cleaning effect. Feed residues are avoided by the
seamless finishing between the different parts.

Roxell
celebrates 40th anniversary
|
|

Where it all started: the first
warehouse in 1967

Roxell's factory today: the
best equipped in the industry

KiXoo and LaïCa. Roxell was
the first to develop a pan
feeder exclusively for broiler breeders and one for commercial layers
|
2007-06-19
The Belgian company became an
authority worldwide in the field of feeding and drinking systems for poultry and
pigs. In the past 40 years they introduced 33 new systems.
Many
of these systems initiated trends or became standards in the industry: Minimax,
Optimax, Hoxline, Bridomat, KiXoo, Vitoo. Roxell expects at least as much from
its recently introduced innovations like HaiKoo, LaïCa and PooLaï.
It
all started back in 1967 when Forrest Lee Ramser and Howard Brembeck, founders
of Chore-Time in the USA, established a subsidiary in Belgium.
They were convinced that the European poultry and livestock industry too would
benefit from their inventions: the first feeding pan for broilers and the
axe-less auger.
In
1969 they exchanged the rented warehouse in Sijsele for a new factory in
Maldegem which included an own development department. As of then many new
products for poultry as well as for pigs were introduced to the market on a
regular basis.
In
1990 the company changed its name and became world renowned as Roxell. The name
is combination of the words “rock” and “excellence”.
Today
Roxell occupies 13 500 m² of building including a production facility that is
considered as the best equipped in the industry. The company employs 200 people.
The
backbone of the company is their passion for innovation, supported by motivated
co-workers and a superior network of 175 distributors and agents. The Roxell
range is exported to 85 countries. Roxell is now a business unit of the CTB,
Inc. holding and realized a turnover of 52 million € during the previous year.

the second evening of the show Roxell welcomed an important number of
influential relations from the Belgian intensive livestock scene, related

Bird
Flu: positive impact on Asian poultry industry
|
|

|
2007-10-20
Strangely enough avian Influenza seems to have had a positive influence on the way the poultry industry
is evolving throughout Asia. Live markets disappear more and more. Manual feeding is abandoned and replaced
by automatic feeding. The pig industry also shows a significant growth in
automation for similar reasons as the poultry industry: better control on health
and hygiene and optimization of the production methods to deliver safe, high
quality products at a fair price.
Gino Van Landuyt, managing director: “Growers realise the benefits of better control
on health and production aspects. Restricting the number of people coming on a
farm or getting in direct contact with the animals reduces the risk of
contamination considerably. At the same time automation results in an increase of quality which positively
influences the rest of the food supply chain as well as the export
opportunities. Asia definitely holds a huge potential for Roxell. Our team is ready for it. We have
the right solutions and the right people to serve the Asian industry.”
“It is our experience that Asian poultry and pig growers prefer genuine technology
from established companies because they want certainties about the return on
their investment.”, adds Hugo De Ruyck, Sales Manager.
New stand concept
at VIV-Asia.
Roxell took VIV-Asia as an opportunity to introduce their new stand concept. The
familiar pyramids have been replaced by displays in the shape of large gates.
Each gate gives a complete overview of Roxell’s feeding or drinking solutions
for a specific type of animal with demo units and illustrative visuals. The new
concept also allows optimizing the hospitality space to welcome our visitors.
The 40th Anniversary of the company was celebrated with a very well attended
reception offered to the Asian customers, invitees from related industries and
the trade press.

A story of Innovators
|
|

|
2007-06-19
What do Leonardo Da Vinci, Henry Ford and Leo Baekeland have in common with
Roxell? The link becomes immediately clear if you read the brand new Roxell
corporate brochure.
The first line of the brochure in particular holds the explanation: “To
distinguish oneself in an innovative way is often the result of … creative and
visionary thinking. …”
Indeed, people like the ones mentioned above had and still have impact on our
lives.
For centuries Da Vinci made people dream of “sailing” through the air.
With his invention of bakelite, the first synthetic material, Leo Baekeland
initiated a revolution that changed the industry as well as our daily live.
Henry Ford changed the face of many industries by introducing not only the
assembly line but also numerous new technical and business innovations.
As an innovator Roxell delivered valuable contributions to the modern livestock
industry. The corporate brochure describes the vision and mission of the company
as well as the culture it creates to realize them.

Stefaan Bekaert, Product Manager for pig equipment explains de Multifast
controller

|
2007-06-19
Lithuanian pig producers
gather at Sidabra farms
At the beginning of last March a
group of about twenty Lithuanian pig producers gathered in Joniškis, a small
town located in the North of Lithuania, for a seminar on multiphase feeding of
pigs.
The seminar was organized by Roxell in co-operation with Sidabra and the local Roxell distributor Alginsta
U.A.B.
The Sidabra site houses 3500 sows and 13600 fattening pigs. The farm achieves an output of 66 000 pigs
per year. Per week 600 pigs are moved to another Sidabra finishing site of 16 houses with 850 pig places each.
Sidabra is one of the
largest producers in Lithuania and one of the first to lift its production units
up to state-of-the-art management standards.
Optimization of feed
efficiency and daily growth.
Sidabra is a typical example of a progressive company wanting to produce
excellent meat quality at maximum cost efficiency. Multiphase feeding offers
them the flexibility to change the feed according to the age of the pigs. In
this way pigs receive the feed that best suits their needs during the different
growth phases. At the moment Sidabra feeds 3 different types of feed but the
Roxell Multifast Controller can manage up to 20 different feed sorts.
The system is enhanced with especially developed software running on a normal pc connected to the internet.
It allows optimal management and control including adaptations of the process in
any part of the production wherever on the farm.
The investment of Sidabra has already resulted in a reduction of the labour costs by 38 000 € per
year and substantial savings on the production costs due to higher feed
efficiency.

Commercial
layers benefit from oval pan feeders
|
|

Poolaï: 360° flooding and low pan edge for easy access

LaïCa: cascade shaped pan prevents selective pecking and feed waste

LaïCa: 12 wide grill openings allow comfortable access to the feed
|
2007-06-19
Poolaï is developed purely for the rearing of pullets. The low pan edge allows day-olds
to spot the feed within seconds. The 360° flooding keeps the pan full of feed.
The oval shaped pan is equipped with a high feed saver rim.
Poolaï has an
incorporated feed trough in the bottom.
A special pan lock prevents the pans
from swinging. This combination keeps the feed deep in the central part of the
pan and avoids spillage.
LaïCa was developed exclusively for layers in production and for layer parent stock.
A uniquely designed pan in cascade shape prevents selective pecking and thus
forces the birds to eat all feed ingredients. Special wings on the cone stop the
hens from grubbing in the feed while a wide feed saver rim prevents spilling.
The incorporated trough in the bottom and the pan lock make sure that the feed
remains in the central part of the pan. 12 wide grill openings allow easy access
to the feed. LaïCa is applicable in different housing systems: floor
feeding (free range or bio), aviary systems and enriched cages.
